Another nice eating place: Xiao Xuan Feng

Our destination this time is Tiong Bahru Plaza. We love the prata and ramen shop located at the first floor and third floor, respectively. So we decided to pay a visit here. We changed our minds when upon our arrival. Cos I always wonder what kind of food does Xiao Xuan Feng served. Therefore, we decided to take a look at the menu before we decide what to have for our dinner. After browsing through the menu, first is the price. Hmm. .. not too expensive. So we set our minds on this. It took us quite a while to pick what to eat cos there are quite a number of variety of the food. All sorts of la mian (ramean), fried rice, cold dishes, snacks. dim sum and hot dishes.

In the end, we chose to have la mian out of so many choices. The reason is we saw the cook make the noodles on-spot! Each bowl of noodles were not machine made but hand made. It was really interesting to see how the sifu make the noodles. From kneading the flour till it was all set for cooking. He twisted and play around with the dough. It seems so easy but he must be strong in order no make good noodles.

The lady on his left is his helper. He was teaching her how to cook the la mian. The right timing to take out the noodles from boiling water so that the noodles will not go too soggy due to overcooking. I like the seeing the way he was doing the noodles. The open kitchen concept of this shop makes me feel really close to the chef and we know how our food come about too.

Dish #1: Cabbage pork dumpling
To see whether a Chinese restaurant is good, dumpling is the best try outs! This dumpling comes top of any similar dumplings that I have had in a few chinese restaurants. The skin texture is chewy but not too thick. They have quite a thick fillings too. Fillings are not too salty and it taste very good just by itself. Without needing any seasoning. But still I prefer sour and spicy. So black vinegar and chillies is a must. The cabbage didnt covered the taste of the pork. I like the way it is made. Good!!

Dish #2: Family Spicy Curry Chicken La MianI would like to bring your attention to the noodles. This noodles taste very good. I think maybe it's because it's freshly made on spot. So it tastes really great!! It's very chewy as well. You will definitely want for more. The curry is similar to those Malay curry that you can find but too bad the chicken was too plain. They used the "boiled chicken" method in chicken rice to cook the chicken. It will taste better if the chicken was cooked together with the curry. And what is even amazing is, this curry definitely doesnt contain coconut as I dont taste any in it. But I wonder why it tastes so good. It's a great dish too. Love it!!

Apart from the food, the waitresses are very friendly. And the workers are all China Chinese. But you have to be patient a little as I think since there are not many waitresses around, you will have to wait for a while. So please be patient and dont shout at the waitresses okay? A nice friendly reminder will do. Cos I found that quite a number of people do this in Singapore. What goes round comes round. When you want to others to serve you nicely, you first have to show respect for a start. If you are the kind who possess the attitude that "Hey I am the customers and I am always right" then forget about getting good food. Especially in Hongkong. They will shout at you "Dont come then there are plenty of people waiting outside!"
