WHAT ARE THE DRIVERS THINKING!!!!

Got an email from the Dean of Engineering saying that a student died due to road accident. This was what happen. This PhD student was crossing on the zebra-crossing and this is where he got hit by the vehicle. Similar situation happened when I was in KL two weeks back. We were crossing at the zebra-crossing (from the direction of KL monorail towards KL Sentral, KL kia you will know where I am talking about). All the cars had already stopped and suddenly a Proton behind another car suddenly cut the queue and speed up while we were crossing. If my brother crossed a second later, he will definitely become a gone case!! This was what happen to the PhD student in NUS leaving his wife and family behind. WHERE IS THE COURTESY of drivers nowadays!
I really wonder "IS IT REALLY THAT RUSH THAT YOU CANT EVEN WAIT FOR A SECOND LONGER? IS THAT NECESSARY FOR YOU TO ACCELERATE AND COST AN INNOCENT LIFE????"
I think IF YOU CANT BE A COURTEOUS AND PATIENT DRIVER, DONT EVER DRIVE ON THE ROAD!!!! When you drive be RESPONSIBLE!!! You, yourself are afraid of death but how about others!! The moment you accelerate and KILL someone, dont you think that you are really CRUEL??!! Your life is precious so are others!!!! Dont be such a selfish jerk which only think about yourself!!!
TO ALL RECKLESS DRIVER: THINK BEFORE YOU DRIVE! YOU RECKLESSNESS AND LAW BREAKING NATURE ARE CAUSING HARM TO OTHERS
I think those drivers MUST BE BANNED from driving ever again and jail them up for several years. So that they repent and others will abide by the laws. Only this way, road pedestrian will feel safe.
TO ALL ROAD PEDESTRIAN: BEFORE YOU CROSS THE ZEBRA CROSSING, YOU SHOULD LOOK TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. So to value your life, and always keep this statement in mind.

Teochew Bak Kut Teh

This Teochew Bak Kut Teh (Pork Bone Tea - direct translation) is located at SS2, Petaling Jaya. My sis said that her friend told her that this shop was quite nice. Thus, family and I went for the try outs. Due to it was 2pm, not many people were in the restaurant. Only a few tables were occupied while others are empty.

First glance at the menu, there are a wide range of food to choose aside from the normal bak kut teh. They stir-fried vegetables, meat, chicken, tofu etc ... Since it's stated on the signboard is Teochew Bak Kut Teh, of course, the Bak kut teh is a must! You can choose to have with claypot or with bowl. Well, bak kut teh is not bak kut teh if there is not claypot.

Some side dishes that we ordered are:

#1: Fu pei
It's a deep fried tofu and we submerged them into the soup of the bak kut teh. Then, dip them with the dark soya sauce with slices of red chillies or bird chillies. It really goes well with it!

#2: Tau Pok
It's another type of tofu but, it's dried tofu. Way of eating is similar to Fu Pei.

#3: You char kwai (You tiao)
It's a deep fry flour (dough). This was to dip into hot boiling bak kut teh in the claypot. Don't soak it too long or else it will go soggy. Soggy "you char kwai" doesnt taste good. You much have the crispy plus chewy plus dripping wet with the bak kut teh soup.

The main characters are here. TAAAADAAAAAAA!!!
#1: BAK KUT TEH
I love the soup base very much. Unlike most bak kut teh that I have tasted, they either put a lot of msg or sugar to make the soup sweet. However, this the soup is really great. I dont feel thirsty after drinking the soup. Thumbs up!! Ingredients are a lot too. It's not like just bones and soup. The waitress will ask you which part of meat that you would like to have and what other stuff that you would like to put into. Here, we only have our pork ribs ... Hehehehe ... cos we dont really like a lot of meat ....

#2: Liver in Ginger and Wine
Mum's favourite is pork liver. Well, I like it though some times. Hmm.. .what's so special about this liver dish is not the liver but the soup. As the liver was overcooked. Should have told the waitress that we wanted 3/4 cook so that the liver will be softer in texture. I love the soup. I am a soup lover. Hehehehe watever it is as long as it's soupy, I just love it! The ginger aroma is really very strong. It combines well with the wine. However, it's a little "spicy" and burning though.

#3: Stir-fried vegetables
Just a normal stir-fried vegetables. However, it's not very oily.

Altogether, those 4 persons meal with yam rice cost only RM65 = SGD28. Cheap right?!! hahahahahha ... That's the only one thing that I like about Singapore. Hahahaha ... Things are just soo cheap!!!

I just love my BRAND NEW LOOK!!!

Hi, folks!!! You ols must be wondering where I have been vanishing to. Well, I vanished to Malaysia for a short gathering with Papa and Mama plus Didi. Sis was not there as she got training in Pahang. Poor her ... boring training with her department hohohoho .... and of course I was having fun perming my hair over the weekend. But poor papa and mama plus didi that have to wait for me for hours to get it done. All of them were sleeping by the sofa. Luckily, the salon was got a great and comfortable sofa for them to sit on and wait patiently for me. Hehehehe .. Thanks papa, mama and didi ... all of you are the greatest!!! Muacks!!!

I got my haircut from KL. You must be wondering why KL. Well, mum heard this hairstylist from a radio station and decided to give it a try. And without us noticing, this is my 3rd or 4th visit there. For those who resides in Malaysia, if you tune into Aifm and Myfm or if you came across someone who is talking about hairstyling or image, well, that's the guy! He is our (me and my sis) wonderful hairstylist! Both of us like the way he designs and cuts our hair. As the hair look great even you dont cut it for a long time. I remembered my previous hairstyle last me for 6 months before visiting him again. Out from a number of hairstylist (all of them are senior hairstylist - I WONT risk my hair for junior hairstylist ... Sorry guys reality are really very cruel. THerefore you must learn well from your senior and senior dont bully your junior cos you are once a junior too) he is the best I would say. As most hairstyles doesnt last for more than 3 months. When 3 months up, I have to cut my hair no matter what because it will be out of shape. But this guy I would say he is real good! You will even look great even after 3 months and can hold up to 6 months. So here goes my latest look before I continue further .....

I have always wanted to get my hair permed. But I am really really really afraid that the outcome will turn out to be an "aunty lookalike hair" then I am done for. I kept repeating to the hairstylist that I dont want to look like aunty after I washed my permed hair. He kept reassuring that it wont look that way. He said relax ... you definitely wont look like one! Definitely wont. And as what he said, it's really true!! After I washed and restyle myself, it just look similar to what i had done on salon (just that not as good as I didnt blow dry the hair but it is good enough)

I love the hair so much that I cant resist posing the cute look in front of my camera phone .... I just want to try out and see how will I look by acting cute as with straight hair, it's really hard for me to do it .... but seems to me that the outcome is somewhat out of my expectations! They are really good!!

Finally, a more normal and decent pics of myself. Overall, I am really satisfied with this hair. Really boost my confidence!! Thanks Michael for such a GREAT hairstyle!!! Everytime, you just gave me a totally different look!! I am really eager to know what's your next step! Hehehehhe ....

The Cream of Wonders - Skin 79 BB Cream

This is the product that I am going to blog about today. I have been using this for more than 6 months now and I am still using it. Before I start to bable about anything, you guys must be wondering what BB Cream is. BB Cream is a short form of Beblesh Balm Cream. In general, this particular cream helps to correct your uneven tones and to minimize the visibility of your pores. I do not know this product till my mom heard it from a Malaysia TV station where the TV host are introducing BB Cream. She immediately asked me and my sis to buy the moment she hears that this correct uneven tone and minimize the visibility of the pores without much hassle (as she knows both of her precious daughter are really and totally lazy in doing make up even foundation). But of course another important reason is that this BB Cream is able to block of UV sunlight both UVA and UVB. Normal on the shelfs product can only block only one UV (cant remember which is which) and one of it can even penetrates through glass panels and harm your skin especially your face that leads to pigmentation and even worse wrinkles. Scary, huh?
The question arises is why not just put sunblock. Well, some sun block is does not block away both UVs and the one in particular will penetrate through your skin no matter how thick the sunblock you have applied on your face. Even there is sunblock where it blocks off two UV rays, still the oiliness is untolerable. After two or three ours, you will felt that your face are covered with a thick layered of oil which is something me and my sis hates the most!!
Maybe now you will question me, well, there is a lot of BB cream selling on the shelves now. By why this? To be frank, the moment my mom told me, we bought a few BB cream to test out as we do not know where to find this brand of BB cream in Malaysia and Singapore. We tried two well-established brands to be exact and we gave up (I will not disclosed the brands ... sorry folks). The reason is, first, they are only able to block off one type of UV rays and second, they are really really oily and makes the pores even larger. Second, they are not the first brand that establish BB Cream. Third, you face will appear too white even you use a just nice or less amount onto your face. Therefore, from there, we tracked down that Skin79 is the first company that come out with BB cream and they are the Best Selling brand in Korea. And indeed, it proves itself right that yes, we should go for this BB cream instead of others.
For this particular product, it blocks off both UV rays (A&B) and gives a more bright and elastic skin. In addition, this particular BB cream makes your face feel supple, healthy and smooth as it looks. And it wont make your face feeling greasy even after two or three hours. The oil is well-controlled and is drastically minimize. You will only feel a little oiliness on your T-zone only after 6-7 hours. Unlike others you will feel it on your whole face. Next, it corrects the uneven tone of your skin and reduce pores visibly. When you look at it by taking pictures, you wont feel as if your face is detached off from your next. It blends well with your skin color. This is why I like this particular BB cream so much. You definitely will not wish people to say that "Psst that girl seems like her face doesnt match her neck" ..... Plus for a sensitive skin person like me, I can use any facial products as I can or else irritation such as redness will show after two or three application. No matter how good others claim, the money just gone to waste. But this I vouch that it definitely will not cause any harm to sensitive skin!! Another great thing is it also acts as the foundation for your skin. Definitely will never make your face go yellow unlike you are using other cosmetics products if you do not use your make-up base. In contrast, it improves your skin condition!!
Probably, you guys might say, "Hey aint she bragging about it all?" Well, fear not!! This is the upclose photos of my fore head and my big pores at the side of my nose before and after BB cream application. You will see a really HUGE difference in it. I believe that if I show you some pictures of the model, you will not believe me as you might said they are photoshoped. Well, definitely they do for a better advertising. But here, there is NO ALTERATION of pictures (100% ORIGINAL). Not to be offending, a lot of people who blog about goodness of BB Cream never really show the before and after results. But here I will really show you the difference.
FOREHEAD BEFORE
FOREHEAD AFTER

Can you spot the difference? At before you can see some fine lines and pores. But at the after application, they are drastically reduced and pores are poof gone!! Amazing isnt it!!

NOSE BEFORE

NOSE AFTER
Similar to the forehead, the pores have smoothen out. And of course, if your nose are peeling, they are unable to covered. Although it really does wonders, it doesnt act like a great concealer to conceal everything.
Another great news is they produce a special BB cream for guys too. WHO SAYS BB CREAM IS ONLY FOR GIRLS!!! One of my friend (Guy) is using it after eharing my recommendation and he really loves it as it makes his complexion brighter. In this era, men also need to know how to beautify themselves. Brain is not the only thing that girls are looking for now. So men WHAT DO YOU SAY? ^_^

June 2 Friends Gathering

It's gathering again. There are 4 of us altogether. Hui Ying, Meng Li, Celia and me. THe other two, Li Lian and Jessy who initially wanted to join us cancelled their meeting with us due to work. Most of the time our gathering are held on weekdays due to weekends most of us are normally occupied. Our makan place this time is Aroy Thai. I love Aroy-Thai a lot as it serves authentic Thai food in comparison to Thai express. Recommended to a few friends and they quite like it.
Aroy-Thai is operated by a Thai family and is located at 4th floor at Funan Mall. Just two floors above Swensen. Normally, you wont see much people in the shop during weekdays. That's what I like about Aroy-Thai. You get good food and great environment too. Not like a normal hussle noisy restaurant where you have music played so loud and you hardly talk. I just love this place as we can really talk and gossip a lot since it's a not so noisy place. In addition, they have updated their menu to picture menu. This is good as they gave a greater idea actually what the food is about as the food are named in Thai. Of course there are English explanation, but it's hard for you to decide what the dishes are like. Illustrations are still better than words ^_^. I love the reflection of their glass wall as well. It reflects really well that you can even see the true colour.
As always, they will served the fried "kerepek" (deep fried dried tapioca) as a starter in a unique dish like this. Like this and cant resist myself from taking pictures. I guess all of them are already used to me taking pictures of the food. Hahahahha .... as I am just a foood lover!!!

I am a cutleries lover too. Hehehehhehe .... So took a few pics on it. Hohohoho ....

Dish #1: Kangkong
We ordered kangkong as our greens. What special is they fried it not with belacan or sambal but with fish sauce and garlic. Very Thai indeed as in most Thai dishes fish sauce is an essential seasoning.

Dish #2: Red curry chicken
I like the taste of the curry but not the peas. The peas are hard and bitter. I prefer it to be more cook as green peas should be eaten soft. Erm .. .I expect it to be more spicy actually. Probably the waiter thinks that we cant handle that much of spicy-ness, I think he put less chillies. In addition he kept bringing us water. What a great service from him!!! He is really friendly as he kept asking what we need all the time. Oh ya he is a Thai like Shalom too ... Hehehehe ....

Dish #3: Thai Fish Cakes
This is some Thai fish cakes. The thing they added inside are some herbs like basil leaves (one of their most popular herbs used in most of their cooking), fish etc. Other seasoning I am not too sure. The fish cake itself doesnt really give you a great impression but after adding with the sauce accompanied, it really taste great. Salty, sour and sweet are in there. I love eating the sauce only too. We get two servings of the sauce from the waiter. He replenished it the moment we finished up the sauce. Really really great!!!!

Dish #4: Tom Yam Goong
Tom yam soup is a signature dish in Thailand. Meng Li was quite surprise to see when the soup was served not in red as the illustration showed that it was red coloured soup. But for the authentic Tom Yam soup, it's normally very plain and mild looking. Beware! Dont judge the food by the way it's presented. The moment we set our tongue on this soup, we were stunned by the sourness and spicy-ness. It refreshes one's brain and awake anyone who feels sleepy. A MUST TRY too. I am droooliiiiiiiiiiing ................... But for those who have faint stomach better dont take this as I dont want you to blame me for having running stomach... Hahahahahha ....

Dish #5: Laab moo (Pork salad)
This dish will really enhance your taste but. The smell of basil leaves and green lemon are really strong. Plus the bird chillies really makes you wanted for more. Fish sauce as usual is a must. Makes the dish taste sweeter and more fragrance. It's really a combination of aroma and taste. You will feel even more appetising. Thinking about the taste I am drooling again ............. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww .... I started missing this dish ... I WANT LAAB MOOOOOOO!!! So it's a MUST TRY for this dish!!!

Dish #6: Mango Glutinous Rice
Lastly, we ordered our dessert which is their popular Mango Glutinous Rice. The glutinous rice is topped with coconut milk and we eat it together with Thai Mango. Taste really good.... THe angmoh's sitting behind us kept scouting at our dessert (according to Meng Li and Hui Ying) while we are eating. It was like after a while they ordered the same dish too. A great dish!!

Really had a great meal and great talks with friends. As usual normal girlfriends outing, we always talk about gossip, shopping, cosmetics, clothes, bags and of course, NOT FORGETTING our complaints on boss this and that ... Ooooops .. .Hoping no bosses is reading the blog. Hahhahahahaha ... if you are one of a kind of bosses that abusing your employee, then better change for you own goodness sake. Hahhahahahaa....

If you wanted to look for other dishes from Aroy-Thai, they can be found at my previous blog on Post-OQE Celebration. A highly recommended food tryout!!! Enjoy tasting!!

It's just lunch!!

I am really bored with the canteen food. Therefore, I decided to start my cooking regime again for lunch. What I cooked was really easy to make as long as you have a slow cooker and a rice cooker in hand.
Rice
I used a mixture of brown rice and barley. I cook it the night before using slow cooker as normally rice needs longer to be cooked. Then I topped a few tomatoes on the top. But be reminded, barley makes you hungry real fast. So beware .... Use only brown rice if you do not wish to get hungry in the middle of the afternoon.
My Greens
I always love my food with different colours and greens is a must. Here I have two stalks of pak choy or xiao bai chye with me. Washed and cut them. Store in fridge for next day cooking.

Steamed Pork
I loved capsicum a lot. So, I put a lot of capsicum on the pork.

The ingredients required for this dish is:-

  • Minced Pork
  • Capsicum (Cut into cubes)
  • Sesame oil
  • Soy Sauce
  • Oyster sauce

The ingredients and seasoning portion is according to personal preference. Because, cooking is all about experimenting. You dont get it the first time dont despair. If you still dont get it the second time, dont give up! You will definitely get it right the third time!! Hahaha so no worries. Mixed the ingredients and seasoning together. Put away in fridge in a closed container so that you can cook it the next day.

When next day come, pour everything onto a ceramic bowl. Use double boil cooking method (here the vessel I used was rice cooker). Let it cook while you are getting ready. When you are ready, put in your greens. Then, go for your breakfast. When you finished your breakfast, turn off all your electrical appliances and packed your lunch!! You can clean the utensils before you go off to work or leave it for later if you are not worry about cockroaches or ants crawling in your sink! Hahahaha ... Alright folks enjoy your cooking and meal *Wink*

The Blue Ginger Restaurant (Peranakan Restaurant)

We had peranakan food after we did our photoshooting on the 23rd May 2009. The restaurant is called Blue Ginger located along Tanjong Pagar road. I havent really got the time to do this food review due to business of work. This was sort of a gathering lunch among friends. Present are Celia, Kir, Yap Meng and Kir's friend (cant really remember his name though ... sorry =P). We ordered three snacks and 3 vegies. Thanks to celia for the great food photos!! I didnt take the shots cos my batteries ran out. Therefore, unable to get some food shots. Hehehehe....

White rice were served in a special basket. They have acar and sambal belacan too. The acar taste very good. I just like it cos it wasnt too sour. Sambal belacan goes really well with the lime.

Snack #1: Kueh Pie Tee
I love this snack the most. Outer part is very crispy. It was stuffed with popiah ingredients and topped with prawns. They added sweet sauce as a finishing touch. It tasted very good. One is definitely not enough. You will yearn for more.
Snack #2: Ngo Hiong
Ngo Hiong is actuall pork roll. Minced pork was mixed with some other ingredients. Then, tofu skin was used to roll the pork mixture. It was not too dry, however, it lacked crispiness from the pork. Still, my aunt ngo hiong taste way much better and you get more ingredients too. This ngo hiong was too wet too. When you bit the ngo hiong, you can feel the wetness and the meat is too rough. It's was ok. Not really that spectacular as kueh pie tee.
Snack #3: Otak otak
Dont really like the otak-otak. Muar otak otak tastes way much better. They put too much gelatin to the otak otak. Therefore, it was a bit springing rather than soft and smooth. In addition, except from gelatin, you cant really taste whether it's fish or prawn. For a good otak-otak, you can see cubes of fish and prawn plus a strong aroma of coconut milk with chillies. I think there are much more rooms of improvement on this.
Dish #1: Ayam Buah Keluak
Buah keluak or Indonesian Black Nut is one of the popular dish among peranakan. I have always imagined that this dish taste very good when I tasted the first time at the peranakan stall in our school (already closed down due to not that many people eat it as it was a little bit expensive than other stall). But to my disappointment, it taste really weird. The nut taste bitterly bitter. But it went a little well with the chicken. This dish didnt really leave any particular impression in me to go back for more.

Dish #2: Chap Chye Masak Titek
Definitely not a worth mentioning dish. This neither taste spicy nor salty nor sweet. Just bland. My aunty cooks better than this. This comprised of tofu skin, black fungus, glass noodles and cabbage. If it's well cooked, it can be really really good. But too bad it doesnt. The vegetables are over cooked. Not a good one. Dont like it at all.

Dish #3: Babi Pongteh
This was a pork dish. Pork were too rough. Actually, the pork should taste very soft as if it will melt in your mouth. Similar to others, it didnt really leave me much impression.

Overall, the dishes were just below average except Kueh Pie Tee. Probably they have other better dishes in comparison to those that we selected. But I really wonder as those were the signature dish of peranakan food. In comparison, Red Lacquer taste way much better than this.

After our lunch, me and Celia headed back while others went for their movie. While we are walking to take our public transport, we came across Maxwell Food Center and Celia recommended sweet potato dumpling. It was balls made of sweet potatoes with different fillings. Red beans, pandan coconut, peanuts etc (as you can see from the picture). When we bought it, it was freshly made. Still hot on the shelf!!! The sweet potato dumpling without fillings tasted the best. Not too sweet as I am dont reallly like sweet stuff.

And to my surprise this stall won a few awards and I only took two of them as a proof.

If you ever eating or makan in Maxwell, can always pay a visit to this stall. I assure that you will love it. However, eating too much of it will make you feel bore though. Hahahahahaha .....
