My first Poster Presentation!!!

29th May marked my first time in presenting poster at the end of my 3 years PhD studies!! I was excited and nervous since this was my first time in poster presenting. Hahahaha ... It was great that nothing unfortunate or clumsiness came out from that presentation. All was FUN FUN FUN. Although it wasn't a big scale congress, it was still a Singapore-Hong Kong Bilateral Congress. NUS and NTU was involved and together with us were another 6 famous universities in Hong Kong. This congress was a more chemistry type of congress. 3 posters were presented from our department. Me and another two of my friends. It was interesting to see others work but unfortunately, their chemistry were too profound for us to understand.... cos our side will be more on application of the chemical stuffs.

Still I am glad that I made a few friends from chemistry department in NUS and Hong Kong University. Hope that we will still remember each other when we meet somewhere sometime ^_^.

Yuan Yuan's Birthday

It's Yuan Yuan's birthday (26th May)!! Yuan Yuan is the newbies in our lab. Since it was her birthday, no one was really working on that day. Me and Zhang Yan were too excited to see a big bouquet of 30 roses appeared in our lab. A nice smelling, bright and shining BIG bouquet of roses accompanied with a little bear bear. It was from her boyfriend going to be HAHAHAHHA ...... I brought my camera with me knowing we were going to celebrate her birthday. My hands itched to take the roses pictures. This is the one close up look of the roses. THey are really BBBBBBBBBBEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUTIFUL!!!!

It was a mixture of milky and red roses with others little flowers as decor. It's a really nice one. Love it a lot and we played around with her flowers too, as usual .... Hahahahaha

This is the bear bear. Zhang Yan got the idea of putting the bear on top of the flowers hahahaha ... A very very good idea indeed.

Here I present you the BIRTHDAY GIRL!!!

Me with the bear and the flowers ...

Zhang Yan with the bear and the flowers ....

More snapshots of us in the lab. We kept looking out so that the supervisor would not come into the lab and spot us fooling around in front of camera. Hehehhe...

Finally, the three of us together. I put the camera on a high pile of books and make the camera to self timer mode so that we are able to get a pic of three of us.

After getting the pictures from me, ZHang Yan suggested we should go out do some photoshoots together. Hahahhaha ... Not sure if we are qualified in being models but Zhang Yan sure does as she is really very photogenic. However, if anyone out there is interested in getting us doing some photoshoots do not hesitate to let us know through the blog comments hahahahaha. Of course we wont charge as high as professional models since we are just doing it for fun. ^_^

My legs cannot make it!!!

Had a congress in school today. Thus, formal wearing is a must. For a non-high heelers like me, wearing high heels are definitely tortures!!!!!! It was still not too bad in the morning but the feet hurts like hell when it came to afternoon as the frequency of standing and walking got higher....... The moment I sat down on the chair, I cannot feel my feet anymore ... sigh ... i really love my sneakers a lot ... aih ... luckily, now i have a few hours gap before I wear the shoes again .... I am thinking when will I ever get used to wearing high heels. I really need to get my feet seasoned with the shoes ... sigh ......

Fun Landscape Photoshoot

Hi folks!! Sorry for the late update on my blog. Have been too busy since weekend plus I need time to process the pics before I can post them on the blog. Last Saturday, I went with Celia for landscape and buildings photoshoot around City Hall area. I just followed Celia around as if I just came to Singapore not too long ago. In fact, I have been staying for almost 3 years in Singapore. Sigh ... and sad to say it was my first time to visit Esplanade theatre and Merlion. Hahahahha ... Part of my works are presented below:-

Then, Celia wanted to shoot High Court from the padang. But our focus changed to the football players instead since there are having a international competition (i think) over there. Some of their actions were captured. Hehehhe...

And I caught a glimpse of this handsome football player. Wah kakakaka ........ He really melts my heart when he played near me .... But definitely, he didnt gave me the heart thumping feeling though ... hahahahhaa...

If you would like to see more of my works you can go to this link:-
Hope you guys enjoyed the photos ^_^!!

Another nice eating place: Xiao Xuan Feng

Our destination this time is Tiong Bahru Plaza. We love the prata and ramen shop located at the first floor and third floor, respectively. So we decided to pay a visit here. We changed our minds when upon our arrival. Cos I always wonder what kind of food does Xiao Xuan Feng served. Therefore, we decided to take a look at the menu before we decide what to have for our dinner. After browsing through the menu, first is the price. Hmm. .. not too expensive. So we set our minds on this. It took us quite a while to pick what to eat cos there are quite a number of variety of the food. All sorts of la mian (ramean), fried rice, cold dishes, snacks. dim sum and hot dishes.

In the end, we chose to have la mian out of so many choices. The reason is we saw the cook make the noodles on-spot! Each bowl of noodles were not machine made but hand made. It was really interesting to see how the sifu make the noodles. From kneading the flour till it was all set for cooking. He twisted and play around with the dough. It seems so easy but he must be strong in order no make good noodles.

The lady on his left is his helper. He was teaching her how to cook the la mian. The right timing to take out the noodles from boiling water so that the noodles will not go too soggy due to overcooking. I like the seeing the way he was doing the noodles. The open kitchen concept of this shop makes me feel really close to the chef and we know how our food come about too.

Dish #1: Cabbage pork dumpling
To see whether a Chinese restaurant is good, dumpling is the best try outs! This dumpling comes top of any similar dumplings that I have had in a few chinese restaurants. The skin texture is chewy but not too thick. They have quite a thick fillings too. Fillings are not too salty and it taste very good just by itself. Without needing any seasoning. But still I prefer sour and spicy. So black vinegar and chillies is a must. The cabbage didnt covered the taste of the pork. I like the way it is made. Good!!

Dish #2: Family Spicy Curry Chicken La MianI would like to bring your attention to the noodles. This noodles taste very good. I think maybe it's because it's freshly made on spot. So it tastes really great!! It's very chewy as well. You will definitely want for more. The curry is similar to those Malay curry that you can find but too bad the chicken was too plain. They used the "boiled chicken" method in chicken rice to cook the chicken. It will taste better if the chicken was cooked together with the curry. And what is even amazing is, this curry definitely doesnt contain coconut as I dont taste any in it. But I wonder why it tastes so good. It's a great dish too. Love it!!

Apart from the food, the waitresses are very friendly. And the workers are all China Chinese. But you have to be patient a little as I think since there are not many waitresses around, you will have to wait for a while. So please be patient and dont shout at the waitresses okay? A nice friendly reminder will do. Cos I found that quite a number of people do this in Singapore. What goes round comes round. When you want to others to serve you nicely, you first have to show respect for a start. If you are the kind who possess the attitude that "Hey I am the customers and I am always right" then forget about getting good food. Especially in Hongkong. They will shout at you "Dont come then there are plenty of people waiting outside!"

Finally able to do Nude Make-up

After a few time of practicing, finally, I am able to present you my nude make-up. At first, it took me about 30 minutes for this nude look. But after three to four times of practice, I am able to cut down the time to 15 minutes. There are a lot of girls out there who are actually like me in the past. In the past, I would think that make-up was something scary and really troublesome. I will sweat everytime I see them -_-". Presently, I enjoy doing make-up a lot. For girls out there who still think that make up is something scary, fear not! I have overcome it and definitely you can too. I will tell more of this in the topic entitled personal grooming in the next post.

Alright back to our nude make up topic. Personally, I do not like make-up which is too thick since I was working in the lab. Something that doesnt make the make up too obvious but it will make a difference to your face. I do not like to give people the impression that you are totally two different beings with make up on. I prefer something that is quite similar to my current look with a define facial features. I did a number of research on nude make-up and did a trial and error task. After a few times, you will know how to do it naturally ^_^.
Tools that you need is quite a list (at least to me before I know nothing about make up):-
  • Foundation (that blends well with your skin colour)
  • Pressed powder (that blends well with your skin colour)
  • Eyeliner (Blue best is with brown colour)
  • Eyebrow pencil (optional) (as close to your brow colour)
  • Blusher (your choice but definitely not red)
  • Eyeshadow (Cream beige)
  • Highlighter (optional)
  • Mascara (optional)
  • Lipstick or Lipgloss

Those listed above are the basics for a nude makeup creation. Troublesome, huh? No worries, I find it troublesome too. Hahahhaha .... So what I did before makeup was to put all the essentials stuff on your clean face (toner, moisturiser, sun block etc). Next, lay a layer of foundation and then pressed powder. Be reminded to apply it until your neck. You definitely would not want people to see you have two skin tone. It looks totally weird. If you want to avoid the weirdo nick, so better do this correctly.

After the foundation and powdering done, do your eyes first. B'cos, for me, eyes are the hardest stuff to apply. Put on your cream beige eye shadow on. This is to ensure that your eyeliner wont smudge your eyes after a few hours and it makes your eyes shine too. *Wink* Line the eyeliner as close to your upper eyelashes as possible. I dont think you want people to see that you have a thick layer of eyeliner around your eyes unless you are going for a photoshoot. Or else it will really look too much for normal daily outing! For me personally, I think thick eyeliner will look good if you go parties or clubbing or on stage. But going outing as usual, I think that will be too much. I dont really like that though. Put a layer of mascara on the upper eyelashes if you feel like it. Not two or three layers. Just a layer else similar to eyeliner, it makes the eye too define and it makes you look like an Egyptian Queen. Scary~~~ Put blusher on both of your cheekbone to create a rosy cheek. Then, a lipstick or lipgloss to make you lips looks fuller and healthier. Lastly, apply highlighter on the features that you would like to enhance and contour on the features that you would like to hide. Normally, highlighter are use on the T-zone and above cheekbone (just right below your eyes). Meanwhile contouring on your for your jaws to create a sharper face shape. Check if you need any touch up. And now you can go out and have fun!!!

Below are two pictures with and without make up. Can you spot the difference?

Till then and have fun trying. If you dont take the first step, who will?

Dessert ... Dessert ... DESSERT!!!

This time we sat at another corner of the shop. P-chan took the photo of the footprints that others left behind. Those were paste onto walls and any corner of the shop. It's interesting to read them. We ordered a combo this time. Cos we were still full. So cant eat much.

There were quite a few tables seated today. So it took a while for our order to arrive. While waiting, again, CA-ME-RA TIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! This time, P-chan cooperated real well. Hahahahahhahaha ...

Finally our mango + peach fruity blended arrived. Taste good. Not too sweet. Heavy mango taste. Peach taste was not that strong as mango.

See P-chan making his "selamba" (relax or laid back face in Malay - from the English words sluber). It's as if he was saying "Hmph, not a big deal what .... " Hahahahahahhaha ........... I really love this pic cos it was really really very very funny no matter how you look at it .. .Hahahahhahaha ....

Since it took a while for the waffle to come, P-cham rampaged my purse. Poor purse and get hold of my IC. We will play spot the difference next time. Hahahahhahahaha ... I think it will be really fun!!

See P-chan acting cute after drinking his Fruity Blend. Hahahahahahahhahahaha .....

The long awaited waffle. It's waffle with choco hazelnut. Erm.. doesnt taste really great as previous ones with ice-cream. I think maybe choco fudge will be better or rather if the fillings is thicker, it will taste much better!! Oh ya BTW they are having promotion now. For this meal which cost SGD5.50, it cost only SGD3 before 6pm. So folks what are you waiting for!!! Go down and grab it while the offer last!!!

Our favourite Jap Dishes

Our dinner place today was West Coast Plaza. Have not been there for a looooooog time!! Went to Sushi Tei located at the 2nd Floor. After we placed our orders, as usual picture snapping time!!!! I love the light bulb on top of us. I was played around with it a little with my camera phone. This is the best out of 4 that i took.

Then, P-chan "masuk satu kaki" (direct translation - put in one leg meaning get involved in Malay). After so many pics, only a few are presentable. No wonder I wont ever fit to be a model!! Hahahahaa ........
I took the following two myself. Hehehehehe ............ =P. P-chan must be shaking his head seeing me like this (Haih ... this girl .... ). Hahahaha ...

Dish #1: Spicy Miso Ramen
In any Jap restaurant, spicy soup is a must in each ramen that we ordered. So this is the only choice in Sushi Tei. Comparing between ramen, I love Beppu Menkan Ramen at Tiong Bahru Plaza or Osho at Cuppage Plaza. Theirs ramen are still the best I ever tasted. However, this ramen is not too bad. The soup taste good and the ramen goes well with their chilli flakes. P-chan was saying it will be too spicy, but I think it taste good somehow =P.

I-TA-DA-KI-MA-SU ..... P-chan is helping himself with the noodles. He is very hungry I know cos it's 7 plus when we reach West Coast Plaza. Pooooor P-chan

At the same time, he was busy texting message ..... to ..................................................................................................................................................................... his friend who works at the zoo with him. Cos our favourite dish especially P-chan is yet to arrive.
Dish #2: Chicken Curry Rice
This dish is P-chan's all time favourite. Wherever he goes, if he sees Kare Risu he definitely will not let it go. Hahahaha ... His trademark!! He is just a curry rice lover!! Heee ...
Finally, he cleared everything! Finished everything clean .... You can even see sparkling plates and bowls ... Hahahahahaha ...

See P-chan still searching for food. He is not looking for main dish but dessert. I suggested that we go back to our favourite dessert place in West Coast Plaza, i.e. Waffle Place Cottage. Hehehehe ..... Love their waffles ... Pictures will be uploaded in the next post! Be Patient =)

Off we go to Waffles Place Cottage. Thank you P-chan for the dinner na~ =D

Little Yu Xi

Visited my cousin's baby during my stay at home. Her name is Yu Xi. I just love her the moment I set my eyes on her. Luckily, she just woke up from her beauty sleep. Or else you will see her throwing her tantrums here and there. She was watching tv the moment I arrived my auntie's home. The moment baby wakes up, it's time for her to eat. Just look how she was eating with her hand. She is soo cute. Just love her. She looks exactly like her mum when her mum was a baby. Like mother, like daughter ... Hahaha...

See she was frowning. So time for milk milk. Moooooooo~~ See, how happy she was in drinking milk but she cant take her eyes off tv though ... Hahaahahaha...

See after meal, she looks soo satisfied and happy!! Hee... I am happy for her too. Hahahahha... Now she will have more energy to play with me. Since I have not hold baby for a long time, she doesnt really like me carrying her cos she doesnt feel comfortable. Hahahaha... .I can feel that she is very very feeble still. I am afraid that I will break her though...
Look at her! How attentive and focus she is in listening to my mum (her grandauntie) talking to my cousin. She enjoys listen to people and most of the time, she will involve herself in her talk. But no one understands her baby language. For a 3 months old baby, she is quite a lovable one. She reminds me of my brother when he was 3 months old and how I carry him in my arms and cradle him to sleep... Awww ... miss those days playing around with babies.... I have loved kids all my life!! Never once I hate them just that sometimes you will feel annoyed when they are really naughty and up to no good. Hahahahaha.... Despite all the hardships of taking care of baby, I would still want to have a few of my own later ... Heeee ......

Not until a while that she noticed I am taking pictures of hers. Just look how big her eyes is staring at the camera. She must be thinking ... what is this old auntie doing with the black thing on her hands. My mum kept reminding me not to switch on the flash cos she said the flast will make baby feel uncomfortable. But luckily, it was bright enough at the house to capture her moment. No matter how many times I look at her I just love her. Cant resist her at all. I believed she is going to be a pretty maiden when she grows up later! Just like her mother!

Lots of kisses muacks muacks muacks muacks muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaks to Yu Xi. Hahahahahahaha ..... =D
