Last batch before CNY

Running the last few batches of experiments before I am off for Chinese New Year next week. Hmm.. seems that the result wasnt quite the one that I expected. Need to think and keep my brains working during Chinese New Year. Though it's CNY still unable to get a proper celebration for that. Cos I owe my supervisor a long list of work. Need to bring 3-4 papers back home to read a little. Papers writing and experimental studies are on the queue. All need to be done by mid-March or early-April. Got lots to do. But I felt energetic cos things are rolling (though not smooth and postponed, there are big and small humps here and there). Ooops continue later... supervisor is here...

More things to think about when my supervisor saw the inconsistency of the data. Basically, my Chinese New Year will be buried in books ... sad case ... else I am done for when I came back. Hmm.. have to think what book that I need to bring back to study and digest... and it's a must to sit in the ESE6001 class. No more skipping hahahaa.... so every Wed have class. OK roger!!

Whatever that comes must face it with a smiling face. Cannot yaya papaya anymore! Concentrate on working!! For the world, yay (scratching what has it got to do with the world? Weirdo!!)

The Keronians

I wonder if you guys have ever watch Keroro Gunsou (Sergeant Keroro). The story is about the invasion of alien to conquer the earth. Earthlings are known as Pekoponians to them while they called themselves the Keronians. The reason they have chosen to invade earth is because the humidity of the earth suits their habitat (since they are froggies) hahahahahha... A funny and hilarious anime I would say. It all revolves around this stupid froggie named Keroro. His plan of invading earth failed due to his insanity in building Gunpla (Gundam Plastic) and he became the maid for the household of one Pekopon-jin family. It's a must watch. Just look at those cute dolls! It was a gift from that special someone ^_^ by catching it from the UFO machines (machines where you put in coins and you are able to catch those dolls). Heeee......

OK let's have a brief introduction from the left.
Dororo - A good soldier in ninjutsu, in other words, he is a ninja but he was traumatised by Keroro. Want to know why? Just watch Keroro Gunsou.

Keroro - The stupid frog that always deceive his comrades into doing something which benefits only himself but every time his plan always turn faulty and all the plans backfired. Useless fella but a hilarious one.

Giroro - A good soldier among the 5 but he always cant do anything right when he met Natsumi (the daughter of the house that he is living in)

Tamama - The cutest among all since it is still a teenage froggie ... still a tadpole I would say. Love cakes and sweets the most. I love Tamama the best. But he is very scary when he got jealous. It likes Keroro the best!

Kururu - A genius in creating technologies that are always requested by Keroro... sigh.... Quite a freaky fella~~ Goosebumps ...

Since Tamama loves Keroro so much, therefore, I put both of them together. Hehehehehhe... Tamama was given by that special someone and Keroro was from the UFO machine.

Then I got all sorts of Keroro in action! During the cleaning the house style, the kung-fu dunk style, the skiing style and the happy go lucky style.

Last but not least, all the Keronians reunion. What a happy family of Keronians. Love them soooo much!! Muacks. Too bad Mashimoro seems to be a bit outcast here. But no worries, you have another big brother at home. Hahahahhahaha much bigger than Tamama. So no worries. He will protect you. Though, Keroro is naughty and love to tease people but he is still a kind and good lad. So Keronians dont bully Mashimoro OK? Be good else Mommy dont love you.

Post-OQE Celebration

The big day has come and gone. I have overcome this. First of all, I would like to thank my dearest friends who came down to support me at the scene of presentation (since it's opened to public) as well as those who has been supporting me although they are not here.

I was grilled during the OQE exam, but the examiners are good people. Giving me more insights revolving my research. Hmm.. need to think more deeply on that. Besides, need to strengthen my understanding on fundamental chemistry. Still quite weak on that. Need to read more books and papers to gain more confidence. Cos this is where the real battle begins!

To prepare for more challenges ahead, of course, have to go and have a BIG celebration!! Yay!!! So Peace was there for me! Yes!! He gave me a jelly lens as a present! Yay so Gooood!!! Thanks Peace. We went to Sakae Sushi at West Coast Plaza for dinner. While waiting for the food to be served, we played around with the jelly lens that Peace gave me!! The angle of capturing is wider in comparison to the original ones. So can you guys spot the differences between jelly lens and normal handphone camera?? Hehehehehehe...Check it out!! Love it so much!! Thanks Peace! You are the best again!! Always know what I needed ^_^. Soooo happy, yay!!

Next stop, we went to Funan. Peace is looking for his camera accesories. So walk around a few shops to find the accesories that he was looking for. Not too bad we got two lens cover at Peninsular Plaza. Though we didnt get the hood and the thin lens converter (I dont think I am right in this point, cos cant remember what that ring thing called) but at least we got the lens. So no worries. Yes, after lingering around Funan, dinner time is here again. Yosh!!


This time, Peace recommended Aroy-Thai in Funan. Aroy means tasty in Thai and yes, truly indeed the food are really Aroy Mak Ma!!!! Love it so much. First, we are served with some snacks which is "kerepek" in Malay. Where they use tapioca, dried it and then deep fried it. Normally, it goes very well with sweet chilli sauce. I love the way they served the "kerepek" looks very artistic by using this kind of dish. It's it very very Thai.

While waiting for the food, I asked Peace to took picture of me. This is the surrounding of Aroy-Thai. Nice ambience. Not so many people when we are there. And the food serving is quite fast. However, the restuarant gets merrier at about 730pm. Hmm... good thing that we went early. Else our stomach will grumble and protest for food.

Yes, finally food came. We ordered a baby kailan fried with salted fish and a coconut milk soup. Not quite sure about the exact name. But they really taste superb and heavenly. Gosh...have not been eating such a nice food for a looooooooooooong time!! Yes, love it soooooooo much!!

Take a look at the baby kailan. The salted fish is not too salty and they dont have the fishy smell. Just nice and they fried with oyster sauce as well. Nice dish I would say!!

This is the limelight of tonight's dinner. It has a strong aroma of lemongrass. Niceeeeeeeeee!!!! It is just irresistable to not ask for more. The coconut milk taste like tom yam soup and it doesnt exactly taste like tomyam!! That's the amazing thing. Consist quite a lot of ingredients inside too. Price wise not too expensive. In comparison to Thai Express, nah ... no more Thai Express for me next time. If I want Thai food, definitely Aroy-Thai comes into my mind!! Found another good restaurant in Singapore!! Life is getting more meaningful with good food~~~ Blissful... yes!!Dessert time!! Ordered grass jelly and water chestnut with coconut milk. Though they are sweet but the sweetness is totally different. Cant really figure out what the sweetness is. But who cares, just eat to satisfied our taste bud Hahahahhahaha..... Grass jelly well, it's just grass jelly. But there are something more on the water chestnut with coconut milk. Water chesnuts are chopped and wrapped in glutinous rice flour (we guess). Then they are boiled and put into coconut milk. Add in some grinded ice. Phew~~taste really good. It will be even better if you eat this by the beach. It will really cools you down~~

My BIG day. Feeling so blank~

Tomorrow is my big day. But should spend some time blogging cos my mind is blank now. Hope fully everything will flow well tomorrow. I have been wanting this day to come but when it comes I am totally blank now. Mind is oversaturated.

There are three scary stage where all PhDs have to face in NUS. First round - Comprehensive Qualifying Exam (CQE). Second round - Oral Qualifying Exam (OQE) and the last round - Dissertation Defense. If you pass all three, you will be free and light!

For those who are puzzled what the exam will be like, here is the explanation:
CQE - Present 15-30 mins on your PhD topic. Then you will be question about the fundamentals stuff like chemistry, biology, thermodynamics etc for about 45 mins to 1 hour. Then, await the result.

OQE - Defending your proposal. A 30-45 mins of presentation about your research work followed by a 45 mins to 1 hour grilling. *Sweat*

Dissertation defend - Present you whole PhD dissertation and be tested on your knowledge.


Tomorrow, I will be taking my second round. Passed the first round. Thank God. Now I will pray hard to the God so that I can pass my second round smoothly. "Dear God, please let me pass through the exam. I have done what I need to do. Please guide me through". Hope Kami-sama heard my prayer and guide me through the process.

A great gathering with Leonard!!

Had a great gathering with Leonard today!! I was surprised when I talked to him today. He somehow had changed. More open and not that rigid in comparison to the previous him. Nice to meet him again. I guess when you start to live in other places that had a totally different culture, you tend to learn and see different things from different angle. Learnt quite a lot from his sharings today. From research point of view as well as life point of view. Thanks Leo!

After a good lunch at Taste of the Chuan (dumpling and egg fried rice). Unable to finish the rice though cos Leo wasnt really eating much. Probably due to the tiredness of his travel. Hope he had a good rest tonight and have a safe trip home. He said I dont really change a lot. Still the same old me (personality wise) but somehow my accent does change a little. The catching up didnt make us realise that time flew that fast. Gosh!!

Leonard is coming tomorrow

Leonard - my coursemate way back to the years in UTM (1999-2004). Have not seen him for nearly 5 years since our graduation from master's class. Time flies too fast. Probably we are moving in quite a fast pace without us realizing. Gosh!! I still clearly remembered the days when we did our assignments and project together during master's years. Clearly, I was always being pin-pointed as the project leader ... sigh ... but thanks to that I manage to get things done in a much organized way. A good learning process for me. Thanks guys (Peck Ting, Yun Fook, Haidar and of course you la --> Leonard).

I still remembered when we always hike on Peck Ting's car visiting our sites. Long river stretch. Hahahaha. Still remember when you get down into the water with your long pants on??? Hahahaha and unable to get a single fish for our Principles of Biological class?? Hahhaha .. that really floods back the memories. When I think of it, how would fish stay in a strong flowing current. No wonder we cant get any fishes except water striders on a Class I to II waters. That's really weird and even Maketab can't believe his eyes! Hahaha.... we take it more seriously on that project that time. Blame you cos you are the only guy in our group *grins*. Cant really remember the name of that kampung though. It was however, really fun! I still remember that I was sitting by the log instructing you where to get the fish while I was fishing myself using the net. Wonder if you still remember that. Hahahaha... I guess maybe we should get it on the other side which is a little bit nearer the downstream of that river. Probably that's where the fishes hideout is. Hehehe... Then, counting my days in IPASA and totally cant stand the stench of your activated sludge. At least the wastewater smell better than your sludge. I still remember you left me and the gang one semester earlier. So that's why you are in Cambridge now. Probably that's the difference in enthusiatism that we are having.

I wonder how do you look like now. Maybe Cambridge feeds you very well that you are growing horizontally (2-d view) cos growing vertically is deemed impossible for you. Hahahaha... I guess both you and I didnt change much from our personality when we chatted through msn. But in person, I am not too sure about that. Hope you wont anger me much tomorrow hahahaha... We'll see tomorrow then. A little planning is to eat at Chinatown when I meet you at your hotel. So remember to call tomorrow. Else I will not know where to find you. Looking forward to tomorrow's gathering. You are able to cure your craving for Asian food. It's cheap here in comparison to England. I know so no worries. But you will be buying the meals cos it's not easy to get a PhD tourguide to bring you around! Hahahahaa... OK till we meet tomorrow then!! ^_^

Lazy day

Today seems to be a lazy day. I guess all the lazy worms are crawling all over me. Aiks~ I can feel them wriggling hahaha ... can somebody help me to catch those worms away? Just did mock presentation in front of my supervisor. Well, need to do a number of changes on the presentation slides. Shouldn't be slacking. Must do a bit of work ma.... how can be so lazy one (very singlish, heh?) hahahahaha ... probably upload some pics again tonight. The pics to Underwaterworld for pre-bday celebration. Havent done that cos I need to adjust the brightness of the pics. I am totally crazy about photoshooting and photoshoping now. They are so fun. Hehehehe. Hope to get more shots in next photoshoot outing with my camera kakis (for those who doesnt know what kakis is, kaki means leg in Malay, however, it is used to denote buddies as well. how this term evolve into buddy I am not sure myself either. So those who knows please feel free to comment ^_^). Will be getting a new Lumix camera for SGD150! Yay! Thanks, Peace! You are the best for giving me such a great offer! Love ya, ooops~ (dont misinteprete =P. Hahahaha)

Finally, am able to shoot some photos which has more or less the similar quality with DSLR. Hahaha... my new hobby. So, Celia get ready to be my model ya hahahaha cos all this while I have been yours. Hehehe... this time round my turn to practice on you. After my OQE, ask me to join you for photoshoot outing! Would love to join you and your kakis very much. Those who are interested can join us too. For me, I would prefer potrait shooting than scenery shooting. Potrait shots tells a lot of stories. Just love it! However, scenery shots is important too especially when you go travelling. Capturing the sights of history and culture that is being left behind by our ancestors. Getting know others custom. That will be a great prove of the evolution of human over time. Need to practice them well. I hope to get shots of people leading a different life in the world and let us feel how blessed we are in our current lifestyle that we are living in now. Thanks to Kami-sama for giving me such a great life! Life is so wonderful and beautiful!

Ok ok back to the topic. I think I draw far enough to something else... Hahahahaha... Nearest shots will be shooting for my Tioman trip with my family (immediate family plus my lecturer uncle's family) in March! Yes, family trip!!! He has a very pretty daughter. Hahahaha.. I can snap a lot of her pics and make her pretty pretty. Hahahaha.. Can snap my cute little brother pics as well since he likes to act cool so much. My mom and sis cant stand me and my brother Hahahaha for being so vain in front of the camera. Therefore, new goal aside from studies and experiments is to practice good photoshooting skills. Yosh! Way to go girl!! Guess my life will be very busy for the remaining of my studies years. Hehehe. Since I am the planner (though not the initiator) for the trip, photoshoot is definitely one of the item. Hahahaha... Daddy + mommy shots, Uncle HH + Auntie CL shots, Min and Han shots, Bro shots. Thinking about on how to make them pose making me feel so alive. Just cant stop smiling... I guess I really got a Permanent Head Damage (PhD). Huahuahuahua. I love the weather

Today is the best weather I had encountered for the past months. The weather was freaky hot for the past few months. Finally, I am able to walk leisurely in the morning to school. Cool air brushing past your cheeks accompanied by the warmth of the sun. I just love this kind of weather ^_^ ~Coool~ Even during the night when I went jogging, the wind was so strong till I can hardly felt my sweat. Hmmm, I wonder if the calories is burning. Hopefully it does. Else it will be wasted. I wish this kind of weather will last....

Interesting, exciting, fun mouse "capturing" birthday!!

This year birthday was fun. Although there isn't any extravagant stuffs revolving, it was a meaningful one. I had it by the sea at West Coast Park near my place. No expensive food. I brought along some snacks (curry puffs and sandwiches) from the Postgraduate Welcome Tea from ESE (since I click off with the program officer *grins*). Just a two slices of cake (one tiramisu and another new york cheese cake). Bought some candles at cold storage and the lighter at 7 eleven at West Coast Plaza. Next station was the market. Got myself wanton noodles and Peace brought Subway for dinner. Then, headed off to West Coast Park.

Look at the moon! It was a full moon. Nice to know that my birthday falls on full moon. Very romantic birthday!! Yay!! Took the pics using my handphone cos didnt bring my camera out today. Should have brought it. Sigh~

The seabreeze was cooling and nice tonight. I shivered a little..Brrrr... cold. Had the birthday cake with the candles on top of it. How does it look? Nice right!

We linger a little by the sea chatting and taking some scenery pics of Jurong Island. A very nice view from our spot. Out of sudden, we heard our plastics being rampage. Oh, gosh! Peace saw a mouse nibbling the bags for food. This switch our attention from scenery to the MOUSE. Cute mouse. Hehehehehe. In order to get more pics of the mouse, we used the leftover sandwiches as a trap. Hahahahhahaha.... I tore the sandwiches to small pieces so that we can get a good pictures of those little cute mouse living by the sea. Initially, there were only two. The more I fed, the number increases to six or seven. They are just so cute and they are not afraid of both of us there. However, their movements were swift! Nice work Mousie! Love you guys. Hope to see you guys next time. Muacks!!

Enough playing with Mousie, we bid Mousie goodbye. Hope that the rise of the sea level will not flood their home much. I will miss you Mousie. Another surprise when I reach home, was Yixuan and Ser Ying gave me a pair of earrings as a birthday present. Both of them had already slept when I get home. They hung the present by the door. Feel so sweeeeeeeeeeeet!! Thanks a lot gals!!! I really appreciate the present!! Thanks thanks ... Hehehehhehehe. In addition, I got roses for my birthday too.

This is the best and nicest birthday I ever had when I was away from home. Not too extravagant but a very meaningful birthay. I truly enjoy this day a lot. Also not forgetting my friends who gave me all their best wishes. Thank you very much guys and gals! Appreciate that all of you remembered my birthday. Really thank you sooo much! Muacks love you all!! *Blink*Blink*

Happy B'Day to me!

A year has gone again. It's a new beginning. However, somehow, I felt that I am still entangling in the past. The harder you wanted to shed off the old shell, the stronger it is you wanted to attach to it. Hard, heh? Therefore, I decided to let things come as it is and accept it gracefully. At least, I do not regret. Even maybe, things are not meant to be that way, I will still smile gracefully for it has happened. Thanking Kami-sama (God) for letting me meet a lots of interesting people in my life. Spicing up my life, which is supposed to be gray and colourless. Though there are ups and downs, I am taught to become stronger in facing the storms that come. The sun that shine after storm is the most beautiful and refreshing for me to embark a new phase of life.

I am bounded by imperfections in many ways. But I believed my imperfections has made another person's day. It's another type of attractiveness, isn't it? I guess improvements on certain things are totally impossible, e.g. my personality especially. Therefore, my birthday wishes are:-

1. Parents health and longevity - They have brought me up in a very hard way, thanks to them I am what I am today (will tell you my grandfathers and grandmothers stories in days to come)! Pray for them to have a good health and have a lot of years to enjoy what I am able to give them in return.
2. Work hard, play hard - No matter how busy life is, I must enjoy every miliseconds to the fullest!
3. Love hard, cry loud - I had once loved so hard, cried my heart out loud! I believed someday I will be loved dearly in return! I am hoping someone to love me as mommy and daddy did =P! (For those in the queue, please take note!! Hahaha - Just kidding)
4. Forgive and forget - I would like to forgive those who had directly and indirectly hurt me deeply. Cos thanks to them I am what I am today too! They have built a stronger me! Let's bygones be bygones. Holding onto something unhappy would not make me a happier person ^o^.
5. Apologies - To those whom I have hurt them without me knowing it, my sincere apologies to all of you.
6. Less hatred, more love - Love all the beings be it someone I dislike. Inculcating love, makes a lovelier me ^_^ (thick skinned - I know)
7. Less war, more peace - War has taken away the happiness and bring upon sufferings, let's pray for a more peaceful world to live in.
8. Less miseries, more happiness - A lot of people are living in miseries, create more happiness if I am able to. Therefore, I MUST feel BLESSED for what I have. STOP being greedy to ASK FOR MORE!!

Hmm... 8 wishes! Good enough! At least in terms of Chinese culture, it represents wealth. I might not be wealthy and rich from the outside but I am definitely wealthy and rich in the inside! Therefore, I dont feel ashame for being born in a poor family but I am truly and honestly proud to become part of it! Thanks to mom and dad for bringing me into this world. One of my favourite songs by Jay Chou "Where is the promised happiness?". I found the lyrics is very very meaningful which made me post it on my blog. Most of his songs represents my thoughts ^-^. Hmm, let's see if I can translate it cos my mandarin can barely make it ... hahaha.

This is my new cap. A new year present from a special friend. Thanks a lot pal! I like this hat a lot and will treasure it very much! This cap makes me feel like a superstar running away from papparazi ... HAHAHAHHAHA... maybe I just think too much. I had an enjoyable start of this year and I guess better things is rolling towards me in this year 2009. Grateful for everything the God has given me. Feel blessed!

The following was taken by another special friend who is practicing his skills on photography. Hmm... probably will ask him out for photoshoot session next time together with Celia and me. Hehehehehehhehe ... yes pictures, pictures!!! I just love pictures. They captured the feeling of that moments!! Leaving a great memories in your life path ^o^

Tired day but good treats

Went to Tian Wang again today! Ordered the Bamboo Spare Ribs with Black Bean Sauce and Stirred Fried Seasonal Vegetables. Well, as said previously, spare ribs were cooked in black bean sauce and garlic. Therefore, I shan't be commenting much on the spare ribs here anymore. As good as last time. Still very nice!!! For Stirred Fried seasonal vegetables, it is basically, shitake mushrooms, celery, black fungus and lotus roots. A very bland food but healthy and nice!! Not too salty too and not too oily. For those who are looking for nice food but are afraid of fat, this will be a good choice! Thumbs up! Yay! ^_^

Then, after the dinner, it's dessert time!!! Hohohoho... Ordered a Kantan Jelly - chef recommendation. It is said that this kind of jelly is made of from roots of a kind of plants (not sure what kind of plants) ... As long as edible and taste nice, who cares what's behind it hahahahahha.... What's truly amazing is, they mentioned that the jelly helps in slimming. I wonder how true it is after you eat them together with the ice-cream, rice ball, red beans, peach and honey. Hmm... will it help in slimming down? I really wonder. But one thing that I am sure is the ice-cream refreshes and helps in destressing my brain. That's a very good help indeed ... Hehehehe... Cost about SGD8. However, it's not that expensive when you share it out not forgetting to keep your weight balance too!

Will try it out again another time! Had a great dinner today! ^o^
